On Feb 10, there will be organised protests against Scientology, but what is it going to achieve?
I have to say I'm a little bemused by the global protest about the so- called Church of Scientology planned for this Sunday - the 10th Feb.
While some will march in cities around the world - and here in Australia - a loose affiliation of computer hackers called "Anonymous" has claimed they will attempt to bring down the secretive cult's websites in co-ordinated attacks also starting on Sunday.
What they've not made clear is why.
Sure, Scientology is secretive. It splits families. It pitches its nonsense belief system to rich, high profile people, using them for cash and publicity. Think Tom Cruise.
It rips-off its members, charging a fortune for each progression up the hierarchy.
It uses its vast financial resources to harass its critics in the courts. To those ends, it behaves just like any other cult.
The disturbing thing is that many media organisations, book publishers and retailers are terrified of the wrath of Scientology.
Rather than fight for the right to openly criticise Scientology - under the guise of free speech - they just fold at the first hint of a lawsuit.
Pathetic.
But still I ask, what will the protests achieve?
Over to you......
