UPDATE: It appears that Spoony has finished work at MMM effective immediately. I find it sad he never got to say goodbye, but that's the way the radio business works sometimes I guess...
Today I woke up and was browsing through my Twitter feed, when I came across this tweet from @Spoonyman that made me incredibly sad.
I remember back on November 26th, 2011 when Spoony announced on the radio that Triple M were not renewing his show for 2009 and that the November 27th show would be the last. Thankfully Triple M kept him around the station in an off air capacity during 2008 and then on August 29th, 2009, Triple M's Odie (also known as 'The Bryan Madigan' and now just Madigan on Sea FM on the Gold Coast) announced that Spoony was returning to the station to read the news and bring back just a taste of his night show in the form of short daily editiorials after the news breaks during the day on Triple M Sydney.
Well now it appears that Spoony's time at Triple M has finished, likely due to cost cutting moves (which is essentially the same reason why the night show wasn't renewed in 2008, although I doubt that MMM are going to try another "All New Triple M" phase again). Another Tweet from @Spoonyman sums it up.
I hope he gets to stick around until the end of this year and do a proper goodbye. Don't worry, I will try and keep this site up to date to whereever Spoony ends up next on his radio journey (if there is another station where he can go) and his Twitter account is the best place to keep in touch with Spoony (since it's directly from him) if you have Twitter. Personally though, I do find it sad that the Kyle's & Alan's of the world get to stay on air, but Spoony has to go =/.
Please don't boycott Triple M Sydney or any of the other shows on there including the Grill Team. Management make these decisions, it's not fair to the other on air personalities if you harass or boycott them, they're probably just as upset as Spoony, you and I are.
Finally, you can listen back to just about everything Spoony has ever done at Triple M right here on this website. I've got stored on my computer every single editorial that he has produced as a podcast between August 24th, 2009 and whenever the final editorial will come out this year. If there is a want out there in the Spoony community, I will upload all of these to the website, although I probably won't link individually to every single one like I have done for podcasts in the pas because there's just too many of them and I don't have the time. If I do upload them, It'll just be into a big folder which you can browse through yourself and pick out what you want!
